Jamie's Italian





On Wednesday evening we got lucky. Pips popped down from Guildford for the evening and we headed to Jamie's in Covent Garden for supper. Pips is currently waitressing in between vet jobs so has managed to ensure a rather amazing staff discount that allowed us to truly explore the menu... 





We obviously indulged and went for starters, mains and dessert, sharing everything to truly test the menu.

The starter special of the day was an unusual combination of homous and smoked salmon on bruschetta with pomegranate and pea shoots. Interesting and not sure it's a combination that I would recreate but tasty none-the-less. 

We went for a bowl of the amazing green gordal on ice, served with black olive tapenade and tortilla chips. Fruity and delicious and something I could eat bowls and bowls of! 


We also managed to tap into Pippi's Jamie's knowledge and learnt the lesson of the Gold Card. Sign up online, get £10 off your first bill, and a free tasting dish and the starter of the month whenever you visit. So worth filling in the form. There's a bottle of prosecco on your birthday, and a brownie and tasting dishes range from wine to soup, so definitely something for everyone depending on when you visit. 

This months tasters are the Primavera Bruschetta - lemony courgette, peas and beans with hazelnut and lovage pesto - and a delicious vegetable soup, both of which we all devoured, with think chunks of rosemary focaccia. The bread wasn't anything to write home about but the soup was really good- light and fresh and filled with lots of green veggies. 



Next we were onto mains. Sarah and I decided to share two pastas. The 'Famous Prawn Linguine' - fried garlicky prawns & Scottish langoustine tails with fennel, tomatoes, chilli, saffron, fish broth and lemony rocket.





The second was Squid & Mussel Spaghetti Nero - flash-fried squid & mussels with tender octopus, capers, chilli, anchovies, tomatoes and white wine. They were both yummy, and while the second had a better seafood offering, I think the prawns were my favourite for their tasty sauce.



Pips went for the Ravioli Genovese which was perfectly presented and looked delicious and was served with a hazelnut pesto.



Obviously we didn't need them but we couldn't resist ordering a couple of desserts. The praline chocolate bomb for Sarah and the orange polenta cake for pips and I. Both good but the polenta cake was seriously good. Mmmm I'd quite like to eat it again in fact...





Jamie's is a chain so not the best food in the world but the menu is varied, choices are good and all of the dishes were completely tasty if not stand out (apart from the cake, seriously it was good!). There's branches across the UK so pop in for an easy supper and to make use of the Gold Card offers. The atmosphere has always been good in all of the branches I've visited to date - cosy corners, good lighting and friendly staff and for me this completely adds to the restaurant experience. 

Excuse the quality of the photos - an iPhone and no light isn't the best combination (hence the inclusion of the press shots too)!
